Milford ZornesMILFORD ZORNES   1908 – 2008

When President and Mrs. Franklin Roosevelt purchased a watercolor by Milford Zornes, his name became indelibly  associated with that media and he spent the rest of his life as a watercolorist- painting, teaching, and writing about watercolor. However, Zornes was also a skilled lithographer.  He did a number of original stone lithographs that were conceived in black and white yet retain the delicacy and tonal quality of watercolor.

His subjects were wide ranging. His rural background in Oklahoma gave him an appreciation of nature and his extensive travels and living on the California coast were food for the strong structural and organizational principles he used and taught.

His works are in numerous museums including: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Corcoran

Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, Los Angeles County Museum, San Diego Museum of Art, Laguna Museum of Art, and the Library of Congress Collection.
